Blanda & Svarta River – Northern Iceland
The Blanda River system offers some of the most varied and rewarding fly fishing in Iceland. Flowing from the highlands to the sea, Blanda cuts through a wide, open valley in Northern Iceland, combining powerful main-river water with intimate tributaries.

Together with its tributary, the Svarta River, this system provides exceptional opportunities. Blanda is a large, dynamic river with long glides, deep runs, cut banks, and classic streamer water. It holds strong populations of brown trout, along with Arctic char and salmon.

Depending on conditions and time of year, we target trout from both the bank and the water, adapting methods and flies to suit each section of the river.
Svarta River is a perfect complement to Blanda. Smaller, clearer, and more intimate, it offers technical fishing for brown trout and Arctic char in a completely different setting. Sight fishing, precise presentations, and careful reading of water are often key here.

Guiding on the Blanda system can be tailored to your preferences and experience level. Fishing can be done from the bank, by wading, or by using a drift boat, opening up water that is otherwise difficult to cover and allowing us to fish efficiently through long sections of prime habitat.
This area is also home to a high-standard lodge, offering comfortable accommodation.
The valley is known for relatively stable weather compared to many other parts of Iceland, adding to the overall quality of the experience.
